EE launches its Buzzard - a superfast in-car WiFi device

The new EE Buzzard provides 4G WiFi connectivity for up to 10 devices in a car

The internet is creeping into all areas of modern life including the car and now mobile network EE is offering the Buzzard, a way for everyone to enjoy 4G connectivity on the move.

The company claims it will be the first to sell a new gadget able to connect up to 10 devices in a car to its superfast WiFi network. Called the ‘Buzzard,’ the small device is powered by EE’s 4G mobile network and is designed to plug into a vehicle’s cigarette lighter, turning the car into a mobile internet hotspot.

EE's Pippa Dunn said: "We're trying to open up the car as a place where you can experience connectivity, principally for parents with children who are currently squabbling over an iPad and watching a video on the back seat.

"The kids that I know, their biggest complaint is that they want to post to Facebook and Instagram but can't when they're in the car. So we want to open that up."

There are now 3.6 million customers on EE’s 4G network, who were attracted by speeds that are often quicker than their fixed line broadband connections. The company says it will “dramatically improve accessibility of superfast mobile internet across the UK, and set a new benchmark for the 4G user experience.”

EE also said that it hopes to improve its 4G coverage on roads and railways - a key factor in its decision to launch this new device.
