Perodua Kelisa

It's basic in every department and no looker but the Kelisa isn't actually that bad

Perodua Kelisa

Welcome to the cheapest car you can currently buy in the UK. At just £4,520 the Perodua Kelisa seems like it's priced from a bygone age, but does it offer modern motoring?

Not really, but then it's not dreadful either. The ride is okay, even if doesn't smooth out the bumps very well, and performance from the 54bhp 1.0-litre engine is peppy in town. You can expect to get 55mpg combined too. It's a shame that the Kelisa emits 121g/km of CO2, though – 1g/km less and it would cost £35 rather than £120 a year in road tax.

With a top speed of 88mph, motorways aren't the best place for the Kelisa. Refinement isn't a strong point and with space being cramped, this is a car for short journeys only. Inside, dashboard design and quality is very basic as is the level of equipment on offer – central locking and electric windows aren't even an option.

What really puts us off the Kelisa is the depreciation. While it may cost little to buy, it won't be worth much in a few years time, so unless you plan to keep hold of it, the Kelisa isn't quite as cheap as it looks.
