KTM X-Bow

Want to know which model attracted the most attention on our journey to north Wales? Look no further. Despite the raft of red-blooded supercars in our line-up, it was the out-of-this-world looks of the KTM X-Bow that turned the most heads.

Famed for its two-wheelers, KTM has now built a track car for the 21st century. You’d struggle to describe the Austrian two-seater as pretty, but the partially exposed carbon fibre chassis helps make it both strong and light. There’s no screen, roof or doors, so you’ll need a helmet and waterproof clothing if you go for a drive. However, the ride is surprisingly supple, while wind buffeting is a problem only at high speeds.

But to really appreciate the X-Bow you’ll have to hit the track. Thanks to its 237bhp 2.0-litre motor and race-bred suspension, it set a blistering lap time of 61.5 seconds – matching the 473bhp Nissan GT-R. Yet despite sharp steering and strong grip, the KTM ultimately fails to engage its driver, while the Audi engine is muted and characterless.

Put simply, it isn’t as much fun as other flyweight offerings, such as the much cheaper Caterham R500: including options, our X-Bow cost more than £80,000! But for ultimate pace and jaw-dropping looks, there’s nothing on earth like it.
