New Touring Sciadipersia coupe sweeps into Geneva

Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera has uncovered the Sciadipersia, which is based on Maserati Gran Turismo

Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera has revealed its Geneva show star, the Touring Sciadipersia. Only 10 examples will be produced after a loyal customer commissioned the project.

The four-door coupe is based on a Maserati Gran Turismo chassis but cloaked in a distinctive body. The elongated bonnet plunges towards a narrow grille and the chrome detailing that houses circular headlamps; it’s marginally shorter and lower than a Mercedes S-Class Coupe

Inside, the coupe features a rather dated looking infotainment system and more conventional Maserati design and layout. However, the Italian brand says it has used the ‘finest hides’ to make the seats and that each of the 10 customers gets a set of customized luggage that sits in the 260-litre boot.

It’s powered by the Maserati’s 4.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which develops 455bhp and 520Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox or conventional six-speed auto; it weighs 1,700kg and Touring Superleggera claims it can cover 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds.

Potential buyers have to supply a donor car to the Italian firm, who then take six months to transform it into the Touring Sciadipersia. The car is built entirely by hand in Milan, but the price hasn't been made public.
