Skoda Superb updated with new tech for 2017

The Skoda Superb family saloon gains new infotainment systems, new driver assists and fresh comfort features

Skoda has updated the Superb and Superb Estate for 2017, introducing a handful of new technology additions, driver assists and one or two new styling options to the firm’s budget Mercedes E-Class rival.

The big news is the arrival of Skoda’s Care Connect emergency assistance feature, which now comes as standard on cars in Ambition trim level and up on the continent. Buyers will get this feature regardless of the infotainment system chosen too.

Care Connect automatically begins an emergency call if a restraint system is triggered in an accident, but the system can also be used to manually call emergency services at the press of a button found on the roof.

Alongside the introduction of Care Connect, Skoda’s Connect App now works with the Superb. With this app, the driver can interact with the car through a smartphone, see if the doors and windows are locked, and can locate it on a map.

In the cabin, infotainment takes a step up with new, larger displays. The Columbus navigation and infotainment system has been upgraded to 9.2 inches in size, falling in line with other cars in Skoda’s range. Likewise, the Swing system is now 6.5 inches in size. Additionally, SmartLink+ smartphone integration is bundled.

The Park Distance Control system has been fettled for greater functionality and can now detect objects in front of the vehicle. It can also warn the driver and automatically brake the vehicle if it detects that a parking manoeuvre will end in a bump.

New convenience and comfort features form part of the updates. The Superb is now available with a massaging, ventilated driver’s seat, while the Digital Voice Enhancement feature amplifies the driver’s and front passenger’s voice to those sat in the back. Skoda promises a quieter cabin, thanks to new acoustic film between the double glazed front side windows.

Lastly, a new 19-inch wheel option will be offered alongside a new metallic red paint finish, while range topping L&K trim cars get new chrome strips on the side buffers and doors, plus a black interior ceiling. The updated Superb is on sale now.
