AC Schnitzer ACS1 5.0d: tuned 1 Series gets 395bhp diesel power!

BMW tuner AC Schnitzer has stuffed a 395bhp 3.0-litre diesel into the little 1 Series hatch

The Essen Motor Show is going on this week, and German tuning firm AC Schitzer has brought along a very special BMW 1 Series. It's called the ACS1 5.0d, and features the 3.0-litre six-cylinder tri-turbo diesel engine from the X5 M50d, giving it 395bhp and a barely believable 800Nm of torque.

That means 0-62mph takes just 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is an electronically-limited 155mph. That means its faster than a standard BMW M135i - which manages the sprint in 5.1 seconds - but also more efficient too. The ACS1 emits 177g/km of CO2, compared to 188g/km in the M135i.

AC Schnitzer is also offering its services on many other models in the 1 Series range, from the 114i to the M135i. The latter gets a boost from 101bhp to 152bhp - an impressive 50 per cent increase. The M135i goes from 322bhp to 375bhp, while the more sensible 120d can be upgraded to 215bhp, from 181bhp.

There are a few other upgrades on the AC Schnitzer tuned models, including a sports exhaust, upgraded suspension (fully adjustable on the M135i), a front spoiler, chromed grille and a roof wing. There's a choice of alloy wheel sizes and you can have AC Schnitzer decals on the car, too.

Inside you can have an aluminium gearstick, handbrake handle, foot rest and pedal set, along with some new floor mats.

What do you think of the AC Schnitzer upgrades for the BMW 1 Series? Let us know below...
