Scalextric Need For Speed slot car racing sets

£40 (1:64 scale) £100 (1:32 scale)

It’s virtual reality racing! Cult video driving game Need for Speed has been brought to life by developer Electronic Arts (EA) and slot car giant Scalextric – and the result is one of the most action-packed racing sets ever.

The cars in the new Need for Speed package have been designed exclusively by EA, while Scalextric has done its bit by coming up with a range of entertaining and challenging courses.

Buyers get a choice of the standard 1:32-scale set and the 1:64-scale MicroScalextric pack. Go for the former, and you get a Lamborghini Gallardo and Nissan 350Z, plus a thrilling figure of eight track. Things are spiced up by the addition of a ‘flying leap’ jump.

Magnetic connectors bring the cars back down to earth, so you can continue to navigate the five-metre course.

The MicroScalextric set features cars – both Nissan 350Zs – on a 1:64 scale.

However, you do get five alternative layouts to race on, and easy-to-use single-handle accelerator triggers to re-enact scenes from the popular game.

 * Maker’s claim: “Recreate scenes from the legendary video game with some thrilling slot car action.”
