Suparpac head unit holder

Stow your stereo facia safely with neat case

Suparpac head unit holder

Should you upgrade the black case that comes with your aftermarket car stereo to the Superpac head unit holder? We put it to the test with the Philips CEM-3000B – the Best Buy DAB radio in our 2011 test.

There are more than 30 Superpac designs available, and our hard case had an illustration of a non-branded sports car. The inside is lined in soft black Alcantara, but our head unit was a really snug fit – we needed to
use a fair amount of force to squeeze it in and out.

As head units can beslid in from either end, there’s no protection atthe side, although thiswill only be a concern ifit’s rolling around in a bag. Your stereo should be finein the glovebox or safely hidden away in the boot.

Trouble is, this product looks expensive – you pay £13.99 for something that comes free with your head unit. And we don’t even think it’s that well finished – on our example, the stick-on graphic wasn’t straight.

Verdict

Rating: ★★
What is it?
Replacement holder head unit for your aftermarket stereo
Problems?
Expensive upgrade, our single-DIN version was a tight fit with the facia, doesn’t provide any protection to the side.
Why buy?
An eye-catching alternative to a traditional head unit case, durable on the outside with soft lining on the inside.
