Hand cleaners mini test

We compare the new Grime Boss wipes to the original gel on an oily, dirt-covered arm

Cleaning oil, grease and dirt from your car is easy; getting it off your hands can be a challenge, so you’ll need a specialist product. New Grime Boss wipes are double-sided – so one side scrubs and the other cleans. We tried them against a similar pack from Big Wipes, and compared both to traditional cleaner Swarfega.

Our tester coated his arm from the elbow down with oil, dirt and grime from around a car. We rated the cleaners’ ability to shift this muck and how many were needed to do the job. Also, we noted the size of each wipe, plus the size of the pack – you may want to store it in the car. Finally, we looked at what you get for your money.

We reckon Swarfega is still the best – but you’ll need access to a tap to rinse your hands with. For convenience, there’s not much between the wipes, as both are great performers. Yet Grime Boss wipes are bigger and work out cheaper, so we’d choose to keep them in our glovebox.
