Ferrari engineers knew that they had to go the turbo route for the 488 to meet with economy and social acceptability.

To acheive the 660bhp power figure Ferrari took the California's 3.9-litre engine and turned up the boost pressure on the turbo.
The engine has been coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. The gearbox electronics have been tweaked to give quicker shift times.

The 488 also produces 50 per cent more downfprce than the previous 458.
The chassis is still constructed from aluminium and uses double wishbone suspension.

The suspension dampers can be adjusted via the manettino switch on the steering wheel.
The wheels are 20-inch forged alloy.

As with many Ferrari models, the 488 is equipped with Ferrari's carbon-ceramic brake option.
The turbo's are newly developped and feature twin scroll technology.
