First Mini Convertible

British engineering firm were the first to ditch the Mini's roof

First Mini Convertible

Today the MINI Convertible makes up an important part of the range, and roofless examples have been around since 1963! But it wasn’t Mini itself that first experimented with removing the hood.

That was left to Crayford engineering that created the world’s first Mini convertible five years after the car’s launch. The conversion work cost around £150, with the company offering two different styles. One kept the rear side windows attached, the other dispensed with them altogether. In all, Crayford converted approximately 800 Minis.
