Sales of the current model Tiguan have unexpectedly accelerated ahead of this, 2016’s all-new car.

<p class="p1">It's hoped that this new model will raise the Tiguan's game and take the fight to newer rivals like the market-leading <span class="s1">Nissan Qashqai</span> and upmarket <span class="s1">BMW X1</span>.</p>

<p class="p1">The new Tiguan gets a sharp new look - influenced by the latest <span class="s1">Golf</span> and <span class="s1">Passat.</span></p>

<p class="p1">It won’t get <span class="s1">Jeep</span>-style off-road tyres or any extensive underbody protection.</p>

<p class="p1">The redesigned exterior is fairly conventional in look.</p>

<p class="p1">The boot increases to 615-litres - 145 litres more than previously.</p>

<p class="p1">The Tiguan’s growth spurt pays dividends inside, where 29mm of extra rear knee room is claimed.</p>

<p class="p1">Up front, it sets a new class benchmark,&nbsp;more than matching cars like the <span class="s1">Mercedes GLA</span> and new BMW X1.</p>
